One of our favorite topics to talk about is transition.

The dictionary defines transition as “a change or shift from one state, subject, place, etc., to another” (Webster’s Dictionary, 2023). This is a bare-bones, foundational understanding of the concept.

Transition is one of the universal truths of the human experience. Just for a moment, think about how many transitions you have already faced in your lifetime based on this definition. It is a bit mind-boggling.

Whether it was living the experience or designing programs to assist, we both have tremendous experience with the transitions that wounded, ill, and injured Active Duty military members and Veterans face.

Welcome to Episode Eighteen of The Nature of Wellness Podcast.

On this episode, we sat down with the accomplished director, writer, producer, and MTV Movie Award Winner Joshua Caldwell.

Josh took time to discuss his incredible new film, MENDING THE LINE, which stars Golden Globe Winner® Brian Cox (HBO’s “Succession”), Sinqua Walls (The Blackening, White Men Can’t Jump), Perry Mattfeld (“In The Dark,” “Shameless”), Patricia Heaton (“The Middle,” “Everybody Loves Raymond”), and Academy Award Winner® Wes Studi (The Last of the Mohicans, Dances With Wolves).

This film captures the story of a US Marine who is wounded in Afghanistan. During his healing and transition process, he discovers the healing power of nature. After befriending a Vietnam Veteran who teaches him the art of fly fishing, he begins a journey of healing and trauma management. The film was released in theaters one week ago (June 9).

Join us as we talk about the ins and outs of the movie-making process, how the movie was able to accurately portray the trauma and healing process, how time in nature has impacted him personally and professionally, and the power of human connection.

We definitely got waist-deep in this conversation (that's a fly-fishing joke).
